Origin
The Angelus is a Catholic devotion commemorating the Incarnation of Christ, traditionally recited three times a day. Its origins trace back to the 11th-16th centuries, evolving from the practice of reciting three Hail Marys at the sound of a bell. The current form, with its verses and concluding prayer, became standardized after the Council of Trent. It is a popular devotion that invites meditation on the mystery of the Annunciation.
